Anyone who knows me knows the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of my favorite rock groups of all time.
Their music is known for being energetic, funky and upbeat. Listening to it is almost guaranteed to put me in a good mood.
However, much of their music also deals with serious topics such as personal loss, drug addiction and hardship.
Recently, I’ve noticed several people I know (either in person or on social media) who have been hurting for various reasons, whether it be losing a loved one, battling mental health challenges or just dealing with the stress of everyday life.
Whenever I hear of people I know going through tough times, it reminds me of the Chili Peppers’ song, “My Friends.” The song is a thoughtful ballad lead singer Anthony Kiedis wrote for his friends and loved ones during a time when they, along with himself, were hurting in some way or another.
